Summer conditions visit for the weekend

Summer like conditions are in place for the weekend but another storm is brewing for next week!

There is nothing better than having an old friend visit for the weekend. This old friend is of course Summer which will bring with it’s arrival temperatures in the 70’s and 80’s. Many will likely be tempted to head down to the beach with these conditions. I should note that this time of year can be far more hotter with temperatures in the upper 80’s to lower 90’s back in 1970.

Today on through Monday, high pressure will be in complete control with clear skies to scattered cloud cover throughout the region. Tranquil conditions will be in place with winds light and variable today veering to the south at 5 to 10 mph by tomorrow and Monday. Temperatures will average above normal through the period. Low temperatures will range from the upper 40’s to lower 50’s over the interior and mid 50’s to lower 60’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 70’s to lower 80’s throughout the forecast period.

Clouds will increase on Tuesday as an area of low pressure begins to develop off the Virginia coast. As the area of low pressure develops, winds will back to the northeast at 5 to 15 mph, increasing to 10 to 20 mph by the evening. Temperatures will remain above normal with lows in the mid to upper 50’s and highs in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s.

The area of low pressure will slowly drift off the New Jersey coast with periods of rain and strong northeasterly winds Tuesday night into Thursday morning. Significant rainfall amounts are possible, especially right along the coast. Rainfall amounts of one to two inches will be a threat which may lead to localized flash flooding. In addition, there is a threat for coastal flooding due to the persistent northeaster winds from Tuesday on through Wednesday night. Temperatures Wednesday and Thursday will fall back to normal with lows in the lower to mid 50’s and highs in the lower to mid 70’s.

Canadian high pressure will be in control by Friday with clearing skies and seasonable temperatures. Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 40’s over the interior and lower to mid 50’s along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 60’s to lower 70’s.
