Three Inmates Accused of Jail Assault

The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office confirms three men face charges for allegedly attacking another inmate.

Three men incarcerated at Monmouth County Correctional Institution are accused of attacking another inmate last month.

Orthis K. Allen, 20, Malik Edwards, 19, and James Reed allegedly assaulted a 25-year-old male on Sunday, Sept. 30, according to arrest warrants.

The men used a sharpened object, the origin of which is unknown, to attack the inmate, causing injuries to his face and neck, the warrant states.

Allen, Edwards and Reed have been charged with aggravated assault, complicity and unlawful possession of a weapon, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Cynthia Scott confirmed.

Allen was remanded to MCCI after he was . During the incident, Allen allegedly forced his way into an Avenue A home and assaulted a man in the residence. His bail, originally set at $75,000, has been raised to $195,000 following to assault accusations.

Edwards was put into custody at the jail in January after he was arrested on robbery and assault charges in Ocean Township, according to Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office records. His $60,000 bail has been raised to $180,000.

Information on Reed’s age and the original charge he was incarcerated on was not immediately available.
