Toss That Candy: Healthy Alternatives

No Halloween candy here, check out these recipes!

It’s scary how fast Halloween got here! This only means the kids will be collecting candy from the neighborhood and eating too much of it. Excess candy is not good for your child’s health as it does not provide any nutritional value besides sugar. Too much sugar in the diet contributes to childhood obesity, possibly developing Type 2 diabetes in the future, and dental caries.

This Halloween, switch it up and substitute the candy for some healthier snack options. These alternatives will provide the sweetness your kids crave from candy, while adding some extra nutrients to help keep them healthy.

Slice bananas and strawberries with a drizzle of chocolate sauce would be a perfect substitute to candy. You can subtly feed your kids some extra fruit. Making chocolate sauce is also a fairly easy process and making it from scratch with dark chocolate will allow you to control the amount of sugar in the sauce.
