Walnford Day Planned for May 21 In Freehold

Demonstrations include blacksmithing, woodworking, weaving, spinning, rug hooking and straw braiding.

UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Park System will host its annual Walnford Day celebration on Sunday, May 21. Held from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Historic Walnford, Walnford Road, Upper Freehold, this family-friendly event features hands-on historical activities, demonstrations and games.

Demonstrations for the day include blacksmithing, woodworking, weaving, spinning, rug hooking and straw braiding. Visitors can also see the 19th century gristmill in action. This year’s event will include a display of antique fire equipment from the New Jersey Fire Museum collection. Admission and parking are free.

From now through November, enjoy free tours every Saturday of the Walnford gristmill, which gives demonstrations on weekends from 1-4 p.m. Besides the gristmill, the site also features the pre-Revolutionary Waln House, an 1879 carriage house, and an assortment of other structures. Buildings are open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., year round. Admission and parking are free.
