WWII Veteran Celebrates 100th Birthday In Freehold
Joe Murano recently celebrated his birthday milestone at CentraState's Monmouth Crossing, surrounded by family and local community members.

FREEHOLD, NJ — A local World War II veteran recently celebrated his 100th birthday surrounded by family and local community members in Freehold.
The celebration was hosted on Monday, Jan. 20 for Joe Murano, a lifelong NJ resident and a resident of CentraState’s Monmouth Crossing Assisted Living Facility.
At the celebration, Murano was joined by his family, Monmouth Crossing residents and staff, Freehold Borough Mayor Kevin Kane and Freehold Borough Council President Sharon Shutzer.

Before Murano came to Freehold, he was born in Newark in 1925 and raised in Belleville. After graduating from Belleville High School, he was drafted into the Navy and served in the Seabees in the South Pacific for three years.
Murano was married to his wife, Angelina, for 69 years and together they raised five children in Fanwood.

He worked for Anheuser-Bursch for 45 years. Following his retirement, Murano continued his love for bowling while learning to play tennis, golf and softball.
Today, he is the proud grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of four, with another great-grandchild on the way.
