$10M Money Laundering Scheme Ran By NJ Man, 35 Others: Prosecutor

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Mays Landing man and 35 others were indicted on charges stemming from a nearly $10 million large-scale money laundering scheme involving stolen checks, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

The 120-count indictment charged Isaiah Edwards-Stewart, 31, with multiple counts of money laundering, theft, forgery, computer crimes, identity theft, trafficking of personal identifying information, and other offenses, authorities said.

In the operation, stolen checks would be deposited into different bank accounts belonging to various different individuals, from which the funds would be transferred into Edwards-Stewart's personal bank accounts at multiple different establishments, according to the investigation which began in 2022.

Edwards-Stewart was found to be in possession of over 1,988 stolen checks, amounting to an estimated total of $9,763,588.09, authorities said.

He also had more than 1,000 items of personal identifying information for other individuals, numerous government documents belonging to other individuals, as well as the software and templates to create fraudulent checks, authorities said.

Also indicted on multiple counts, including two counts of conspiracy to commit money laundering in the first-degree and two counts of theft in the second-degree, were the following:
