A 16-year-old boy died in an ATV crash in New Jersey on Wednesday, police said.

The crash happened at approximately 5:29 p.m. when officers from the Hamilton Township Police Department responded to Railroad Boulevard, in the Mizpah section of the township, for a motor vehicle crash, police said.

An investigation revealed that a Kawasaki ATV operated by a 16-year-old boy from Richland left the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn into the woods, police said.

The driver sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, where he died. The juvenile was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

Assisting with the scene were AtlantiCare Medics and the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad.
