4 Off-Duty Coast Guard Members Save Drowning Swimmer In South Jersey

The swimmer was in distress, but thankfully, four off-duty U.S. Coast Guard members were nearby and immediately were able to help.

HAMILTON, NJ — Local police are sharing their gratitude after four off-duty members of the U.S. Coast Guard helped a swimmer in distress recently.

The Township of Hamilton police said they got a call about a recreational swimmer in distress on June 27.

"Thankfully, four off-duty members of the United States Coast Guard, stationed at the Coast Guard Station Atlantic City, were nearby and provided immediate first aid to the swimmer," police said.

Police did not say where the person was swimming, but according to NJ Advance Media, it was at a secluded lake on Harbor Avenue.

The swimmer was then taken to the hospital for further treatment, police said.

"We would like to remind our residents and visitors to only swim in designated recreational locations where lifeguards are present," police said.
