46 Animal Cruelty Charges For Galloway Woman With 22 Cats: Police

The 22 cats and one dog were living in a condo in unsanitary and inhumane conditions, Galloway police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — A Galloway woman was charged with animal cruelty after authorities discovered 22 cats and one dog living in her condominium, police said.

Lourdes Martinez, 48, received 46 animal cruelty charges after the animals were found living in unsanitary and inhumane conditions, Galloway police said.

The condo was searched July 22, police said, where the animals were being deprived of clean water and food. Several were kept inside cages in the house, police said.

All of the animals were seized and taken to a veterinarian for medical evaluation, police said. They will be held pending the outcome of the case.

Martinez is currently lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.

"The Galloway Township Police Department is committed to the continuous improvement of the welfare of animals," police said. "If you are aware of animal cruelty or neglect, please report it to your local police department."
