5 People Injured In 3-Car Crash In Galloway: Police

The accident took place Monday evening.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ — Five people were injured in a three-car crash that took place at the intersection of the White Horse Pike and 5th Avenue, Galloway Township Police said Monday night.

Caridad Shieh 62, of Cortlandt Manor, NY, was driving a 2003 Suzuki east in the westbound lanes of the White Horse Pike in the area where the highway is divided by barrier at about 6:23 p.m. Monday night, police said.

Shieh struck a BMW that was being driven by 40-year-old Alexis Varela-Cano, of Atlantic City.

The Suzuki continued east and struck a Lexus that was being driven by 69-year-old Wilfredo Carreno, of Absecon, before finally coming to a stop, according to police.

All occupants in the accident were injured.

Shieh suffered a moderate injury and was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division by the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad.

Two passengers in the BMW were taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division for minor injuries.

Varela-Cano and Carreno both suffered minor injuries and turned down medical treatment.

The eastbound lanes of the White Horse Pike were shut down for about one hour while the scene was investigated and debris/vehicles were removed.

Shieh was issued a summons for driving the wrong direction on a divided highway.

The investigation is ongoing.
