Absecon Woman Stole $3K From Courts: Prosecutor
Mariya Starrett was arrested and charged on Wednesday, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office said.

The Lower Township Deputy Municipal Court Administrator stands accused of stealing more than $3,000 the Lower Township Municipal Courts received as payments from the residents of the township.
Mariya Starrett, 31, of Absecon, has been arrested and charged with second-degree official misconduct and third-degree theft by failure to make the required disposition, Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor said on Thursday.
The investigation began after detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit received a complaint from the Division Manager of the Superior Court of Cape May County. Starrett was arrested on Wednesday, July 5, charged and released pending court proceedings.

Anyone convicted of second-degree crimes are subject to a term of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison. Anyone convicted of third-degree crimes are subject to a term of imprisonment of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
