Absegami High School Football Team Comes From Behind to Win Season Opener

The Braves downed the Ocean City, 31-26, Friday night.

The Absegami High School football team took its first lead of Friday night’s game toward the end of the first half and never looked back en route to a 31-26 win, the Press of Atlantic City reports.

Absegami quarterback Andrew Marcucci accounted for four touchdowns, including two through the air and two on the ground. This included a 60-yard pass to Vinnie Nelson. Nelson also scored on a lateral from Austin Shiner.

Garrett Jones put Ocean City on the board first, picking off a Marcucci pass and returning it 60 yards for a score in the first quarter.

Offensively, Ocean City scored on three rushing touchdowns. Owen Naplacic scored on a 27-yard run, Dan Henderson scored from 16 yards out and Andrew Donohue had a 27-yard score.

It was the season opener for both Cape-Atlantic League teams, who honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack before kickoff.
