Ex-Corrections Officer Sentenced In Atlantic County Jail Smuggling Case

A former corrections officer was sentenced after admitting he smuggled drugs, nicotine and phones into jail.

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Christopher Piccioni, 35, of Swedesboro, was sentenced April 27 to five years in New Jersey State Prison for smuggling contraband into the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Piccioni brought multiple packages containing nicotine, narcotics and cell phones into the jail while he was employed as a corrections officer.

The prosecutor’s office said the smuggling happened from October 2023 through March 2024. According to officials, the packages were intended for inmate Dion Robinson. The prosecutor’s office said Piccioni received the packages from Robinson’s girlfriend, Qydreia Smith, who paid him several thousand dollars for each package.

All three were charged in connection with the conspiracy, according to the prosecutor’s office. On Dec. 9, 2025, Piccioni pleaded guilty to second-degree conspiracy to commit Official Misconduct. Smith and Robinson also entered guilty pleas to second-degree conspiracy and are awaiting sentencing, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds commented on the sentence in a statement released with the announcement.

“The rule of law applies equally to everyone - without fear, without favor, and without exception. Public officials who abuse their office for personal gain will be held to the same standard of justice as every citizen,” he said.
