The debate includes all four Democratic candidates who met the minimum campaign finance threshold to file campaign finance reports and were invited to participate. The candidates are Tim Alexander, Zack Mullock, Terri Reese and Bayly Winder. The announcement states that all four met the criteria and agreed to participate.

Alyssa Maurice, assistant director at the Hughes Center, and a representative from The Press of Atlantic City will moderate the event. The Hughes Center and The Press will also accept suggested debate questions from members of the public before the debate, according to the announcement.

The event comes ahead of New Jersey’s June 2 election. The voter registration deadline is May 12, and early voting in New Jersey is scheduled from May 26 through May 31.

On the Republican side, incumbent U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew is running uncontested in the primary, according to the announcement.

The debate gives voters in the 2nd District a public forum to hear directly from the Democratic candidates before ballots are cast. It also creates a chance for residents to take part by attending in person, watching online or submitting possible questions in advance.

People who want more information or want to propose a question can email the Hughes Center, according to the announcement. The debate recording will remain available on the Hughes Center site after the event.
