MAYS LANDING, NJ — An Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office sergeant has graduated from a competitive statewide leadership program, and he left with top academic honors.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced that Sgt. Jason Salter graduated from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command and Leadership Academy. Salter joined the Prosecutor’s Office in 2010, was promoted to sergeant in 2022, and now supervises the High-Tech Crime unit. He also serves as a member of the Atlantic County Special Weapons and Tactics Team.
“His work ethic and dedication are beyond reproach,” Prosecutor William E. Reynolds said. “He exemplifies this agency with distinction, and his unwavering commitment to excellence is evident in his leadership.”
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Salter was a top performer throughout the 13-week course and earned the highest final score in the Southern Region class. That score earned him the Chief Harry Wilde Academic Excellence Award. The office said prior winners of that award from Atlantic County include Lt. Lynn Dougherty, Sgts. Jennifer Cugini and Ryan Hutton, and retired Deputy Chief Matthew Paley.
The Command and Leadership Program is a cooperative effort between the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. According to the announcement, the program adapts the West Point command and leadership model to the needs of law enforcement.
The collaboration has grown into what the office described as the NJSACOP Command and Leadership Academy, combining theory and practice. The program draws candidates from municipal, county, state and federal agencies across the region, with participants selected based on leadership potential.
Salter’s background in Atlantic County includes both investigative and tactical assignments. In addition to supervising the High-Tech Crime unit, he holds a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University and is pursuing a master’s degree from Murray State University.
