Teen Struck By Car While Crossing Galloway Roadway: Police

A 17-year-old was taken to a local hospital after being struck near Wrangleboro Road and Navesink Drive.

GALLOWAY, NJ — A 17-year-old juvenile was seriously injured Sunday night after being struck by a motor vehicle near Wrangleboro Road and Navesink Drive in Galloway Township, according to the Galloway Township Police Department.

Police said officers responded to the area at approximately 8:57 p.m. on Aug. 2 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. When officers arrived, they found the 17-year-old in the roadway suffering from serious injuries, according to the department.

The preliminary investigation determined that Horatio Hibbert, 40, of Atlantic City, was traveling northbound on Wrangleboro Road and navigating the curve near Navesink Drive, police reported. As Hibbert's vehicle approached the crosswalk, it struck the juvenile, who was crossing the roadway, according to police.

The teens sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to the department. Police did not release the juvenile's name.

The crash remains under investigation by the Galloway Township Police Department Traffic Unit. No additional information about possible charges or summonses was included in the department's release.

In the aftermath of the crash, the police department issued a public reminder about pedestrian safety for people walking on or near roadways. The department said pedestrians should wear bright or reflective clothing, cross only at designated crosswalks or intersections, use sidewalks whenever available, and walk facing oncoming traffic when a sidewalk is not provided.
