Army Recruiter Sexually Assaulted Teen Girl At NJ Wawa: Police

Shawn C. Nguyen, 44, used his position as a recruiter with the NJ Army National Guard to sexually assault a 16-year-old, police said.

HAMILTON, NJ — A military recruiter used his position to carry out the sexual assault of a teenage girl at a South Jersey Wawa, police said.

Shawn C. Nguyen, 44, of Egg Harbor, was charged with sexual assault Monday after a nearly two-year long investigation into the assault of a 16-year-old, Township of Hamilton police said.

The investigation began in June 2022, when police responded to the Wawa on Black Horse Pike for report of a girl in distress, police said.

Detectives found that Nguyen, a recruiter with the New Jersey Army National Guard, used that position to carry out the sexual assault of the 16-year-old girl, police said.

Nguyen was charged with two counts of sexual assault, criminal sexual contact, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct. He now sits in Atlantic County Jail pending a court appearance, police said.
