Atlantic City Cop Spent Accidentally Deposited Money: Prosecutor

The bank accidentally deposited $100K into LaQuay DuBose's account. When they realized the mistake, he had spent more than $35K, police say.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — An Atlantic City police officer was charged with theft after spending thousands of dollars that were accidentally deposited into his bank account, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

On March 21, 2023, bank employees accidentally deposited a $100,000 check into a checking account belonging to LaQuay DuBose, 37, authorities said.

Bank personnel realized the error on March 27, withdrew the funds and closed DuBose's account, according to officials.

However, by that time, DuBose had already spent more than $35,000 of the funds, resulting in his account being overdrawn by $35,903.17, authorities said.

The investigation was conducted by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Professional Standards and Accountability Unit.
