Atlantic City Man Tells Judge He Killed His Own Mother

Steven Pratt said he killed his mother two days after getting out of prison, according to The Press of Atlantic City.

An Atlantic City man accused of killing his mother two days after completing a 30-year prison sentence on a murder conviction told a superior court judge he was guilty during a court appearance on Tuesday, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

Steven Pratt, 46, stands accused of murder in connection with the death of Gwendolyn Pratt, 64, of apparent head injuries, early Sunday morning.

Police responded to the 1800 block of McKinley Avenue at 6:29 a.m. Sunday morning. They found Gewndolyn Pratt dead and detained her son, Steven, at the scene.

He was staying with his mother after being released from jail on Friday. He had just completed a 30 year sentence on a 1984 murder conviction. He shot and killed his neighbor when he was 15. He was tried as an adult and convicted of first-degree murder, according to the Huffington Post.

His bail was set at $1 million, but Pratt said it didn’t matter as he broke down crying in court. He told the judge “I have no one,” and “I don’t want a trial. I’m guilty,” according to the report.
