Atlantic Co. Sisters Stole Prescription Drugs From Nursing Home: Cops

One sister pretended to be the other to work a shift at a nursing home and steal oxycodone pills, Monmouth County officials said.

SHREWSBURY, NJ — A pair of Atlantic County sisters have been charged in a scheme where one sister used the other's identity to steal oxycodone pills from a nursing home, authorities said.

Deborah Baskerville, 38, of Galloway and her sister Shonte Hall, 36, of Egg Harbor City were charged in connection with the theft, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Shrewsbury Borough Police Chief Robert Turner jointly announced Tuesday.

According to Santiago and Turner, Baskerville used Hall's identity and nursing license to work a shift at Complete Care, a skilled nursing facility in Shrewsbury, on Oct. 31, 2023.

During the shift, Baskerville took 10 oxycodone pills (valued at $200) from a locked cart and replaced them with allergy pills, authorities said.

Baskerville turned herself in to authorities in Feb. 2024, followed by Hall a few weeks later. Both appeared in court last week and were released on their own recognizance pending future court proceedings.

Authorities believe that Baskerville may have done the same thing at other medical facilities across the state in late 2023, as Hall worked for a nursing company that outsources its services as needed. Anyone with information about the activities of these defendants is being asked to contact Sgt. DeCristofaro at 732-741-2500, Ext. 230.

Baskerville was charged with the following:

  • Third-degree theft of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Fourth-degree unlicensed practice of medicine
