Atlantic County Prosecutor to Reconsider Shaneen Allen Gun Case

Allen, a mother of two from Philadelphia, faces about 11-and-a-half years for bringing a gun across state lines.

The trial of a Philadelphia woman who faces about 11 years in prison for bringing a gun she purchased legally across state borders has been delayed three weeks so Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain can review his office’s position in the case, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

Shaneen Allen, 27, legally purchased her gun in Philadelphia. However, when the mother of two was stopped by an officer in Atlantic County, NJ, she said she was carrying the gun and was arrested because her permit to carry and conceal is applicable only in Pennsylvania.

She questions how criminals can get probation and other offenders get second chances, but she can face a jail sentence of up to 11-and-a-half years.

McClain has also been questioned for not allowing her into the same pre-trial intervention program for first offenders that former Baltimore Raven and Rutgers University running back Ray Rice was admitted to.

The trial was set to begin Oct. 6, but now will begin Oct. 20, according to the report.
