This Is The Best Sandwich In New Jersey, The Daily Meal Says

This sandwich is "worth the pilgrimage" for anyone in New Jersey, a new ranking says.

Even if you live as far south as Salem, or as far north as Mahwah, you may want to make a day trip to get the best sandwich in the state, according to a newly-released ranking.

The White House Sub Shop, featuring "a full-length sandwich runs about a foot and a half, so you’ll probably want to share it," topped The Daily Meal's recently released list identifying the best sandwich shops in New Jersey, ranking it among the best in America.

The Daily Meal, which released its list last week, described White House as "worth the pilgrimage" for anyone in New Jersey, and elsewhere.

"When you go, there’s only one sandwich you need to order: the Italian. Genoa salami, provolone, ham, and capicola are piled onto a soft and chewy Italian loaf, topped with lettuce, tomato, sliced onion, chopped roasted peppers, Italian seasonings, oil, and vinegar," according to the Daily Meal.

The Daily Meal noted that there used to be more than one White House sub shop but "now sadly (its) down to just one location, (the original) on Arctic Avenue, because the boardwalk location shut down along with the rest of Trump Taj Mahal in October."

"But that’s OK; it’s been going strong since 1946," the site said.

The Daily Meal said it based its findings subjective, saying a great sandwich is "one where the bread, fillings, and condiments all work in perfect harmony, is no small feat."

The Daily Meal said it went state by state, city by city, scrolling through review sites and local news publications to learn which sandwich shops, and individual sandwiches in particular, are the most beloved.

"Many of these sandwiches are iconic, beloved to locals and occasionally even tourists, and major sources of pride for the restaurant or sandwich shop that serves them."
