Bystanders Chase Away Attempted Carjacker In South Jersey: Police
A man was delivering food when he was assaulted by someone who tried to steal his car. Two people nearby came to his aid, police said.
MAYS LANDING, NJ — An attempted carjacker was chased away by two bystanders who saw him assault a man and try to steal his car, Township of Hamilton police said.
A 53-year-old man from Mays Landing was delivering food around 3 p.m. Jan. 11 when another man assaulted him and tried to steal his 2016 Honda Civic, police said.
Two independent witnesses came to the man's aid, chasing the attempted carjacker on foot into an adjacent housing complex, police said.

Police established a perimeter and took the attempted thief, 18-year-old Ray'Quan Summers of Mays Landing, into custody.
The man who was assaulted sustained minor injuries, according to police.

Summers was charged with second degree robbery and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
"The Township of Hamilton Police Department would like to acknowledge the actions of the two individuals who came to the aid of the victim," police said. "This was a great collaborative effort by our citizens and the police to remove a violent suspect from our community."
