Children Seriously Injured In Accident; Galloway Woman Charged With DWI

Three children were seriously injured and two others suffered minor injuries.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Galloway Township woman has been charged with DWI and possession of marijuana after police say she caused an accident in which three children were seriously injured. Two other children suffered minor injuries, according to Hamilton Township police. All five children were from Galloway.

Kelly Ryan, 30, ran a stop sign at the corner of Lombard Street and Cologne Avenue in Hamilton Township, at about 8:53 p.m. Sunday night, police said. Her 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe crashed into a a 2011 Kia Optima that was occupied by an adult driver and five children, ranging in ages from 7-12 years old, police said.

An 11-year-old boy was flown to Cooper Hospital to be treated for serious injury. A 12-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl were taken to AtlantiCare Medical Center City Division to be treated for serious injuries.

A 10-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were taken to AtlantiCare Medical Center Mainland Division with minor injuries.

In addition to the DWI and marijuana possession charges, other charges are pending against Ryan, pending further investigation. Assisting at the scene was the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad, Galloway Rescue, Cologne Fire Department, AtlantiCare Medics and Medivac 4.
