Coast Guard Medevacs 4-Year-Old Off Atlantic City Coast

The Coast Guard medevaced a 4-year-old boy Monday from a cruise ship approximately 100 miles southeast of Atlantic City.

The following press release was issued by the Coast Guard Monday evening:

The Coast Guard medevaced a 4-year-old boy Monday from a cruise ship approximately 100 miles southeast of Atlantic City.

A crewmember aboard the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway contacted Coast Guard 5th District Command Center watchstanders approximately 9:45 a.m. to report the child had fallen from his bunk and had sustained a head injury.

District watchstanders in Portsmouth, Virginia, directed the captain of the Norwegian Breakaway to change course and rendezvous with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City.

The helicopter crew arrived at the Norwegian Breakaway at approximately 3 p.m., hoisted the boy and his mother were aboard the helicopter and transferred them to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City.

The boy was reported to be in stable condition.
