County Corrections Officer From Egg Harbor City Sentenced For Sexual Contact With Inmate: Prosecutor

An Atlantic County corrections officer has been sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to charges of criminal sexual contact involving a woman who was an inmate at the county jail when the crime was committed, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced on Tuesday.

Castulo Matos, 48, a 21-year veteran corrections officer of Egg Harbor City, must also forfeit current and future public employment. On May 17, he waived indictment and pled guilty to a charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact in relation to the alleged incident on Dec. 5, 2016. The victim reported the incident to Atlantic County Justice Facility staff on Dec. 13, 2016.

She also said Matos had made sexual comments to her on several dates leading up to the incident. Matos was immediately suspended from his employment. Officers of the Atlantic County Department of Public Safety/Division of Adult Detention Investigations Unit and detectives of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Official Corruption Unit conducted the investigation.
