Dangerous Batch of Heroin May Be Responsible for 5 Overdoses

One of the overdoses resulted in death.

A particularly dangerous batch of heroin known labeled with the words “1 Stop” in purple letters on the bag may be responsible for as many as five overdoses, including one death, that all took place in Atlantic County on Saturday, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain announced.

The one suspected death is pending toxicological analysis. The other victims survived.

The overdoses occurred in Atlantic City and other mainland locations throughout the county.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office reminds residents who see someone who appears to be in medical distress to call 9-1-1.

McClain reminds the public that New Jersey’s Overdose Prevention Act ensures that those who seek help for themselves or others experiencing an overdose is immune from arrest, charges, prosecution, or conviction “for obtaining, possessing, using, being under the influence of, or failing to make lawful disposition of,” drugs.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office issued the alert Saturday night with the goal of saving lives, McClain said.

Anyone with information that may help the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office locate the source of this heroin and prevent further overdose victims are asked to call 609-909-7666.
