Dog Gets Exposed To Heroin, Atlantic Co. Owners Indicted: Prosecutor

The Yorkshire Terrier was found unresponsive at Walmart, and police had to administer a dose of Narcan, officials said.

HAMMONTON, NJ — The owners of a dog who was exposed to heroin have been indicted on animal cruelty and drug possession charges, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Clinton Danks, 58, and Kristina Meyers, 37, both of Hammonton, were indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury for third-degree animal cruelty and third-degree possession of heroin, officials said.

On Nov. 17, 2022, bystanders called police to Walmart after seeing the Yorkshire Terrier unresponsive and unable to breathe, officials said.

A bystander was attempting to revive the dog when police arrived, the Prosecutor's Office said.

The dog had been exposed to heroin by its owners, Danks and Meyers, who were still on the scene, according to officials.

Police administered a pediatric dose of Narcan to the dog, who instantly was revived and stabilized, officials said. Danks and Meyers were subsequently arrested.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office encourages residents to report animal abuse and neglect to law enforcement. Reports can be made to each police department's Humane Law Enforcement Officer or through 911 if the animal's life is in immediate danger.
