Driver Killed In 5-Car Crash At Galloway Intersection: Police
Five vehicles were involved in the crash Wednesday afternoon, which resulted in the death of 83-year-old James T. Johnson, police said.
GALLOWAY, NJ — A driver was killed and others injured Wednesday in a five-car crash at an intersection in Galloway, police said.
The crash happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the intersection of South Pitney Road and Collins Road.
James T. Johnson, 83, of Galloway was driving north on Pitney Road as he approached the Collins Road intersection, police said. A Lincoln Navigator was stopped in the roadway trying to turn left onto Collins Road.

As Johnson tried to pass the Navigator, he side-swiped the SUV and drove into oncoming traffic, hitting a Mercedes GL4, police said. The collision caused two other cars, a Chevrolet Cruz and Nissan Xterra, to also be struck, police said.
The driver of the Mercedes and a passenger were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injures. Johnson was severely injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Cody Trout and Officer Kaitlyn Reyes of the Galloway Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit are continuing to investigate the accident. Anyone with additional information regarding the incident is asked to contact Trout at 609-652-3705 extension 5117.
