Drunken Driver Indicted In Fatal South Jersey Hit-And-Run
Shawn P. Duffy was under the influence when he struck and killed a bicyclist before driving away from the scene, authorities said.
EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ — A drunken driver was indicted in connection with a February crash where he struck and killed a bicyclist before fleeing the scene in Egg Harbor Township, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.
Shawn P. Duffy, 39, was indicted on charges of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and vehicular homicide for the Feb. 6, 2024 crash.
Duffy, an Egg Harbor Township resident, was driving on Steelmanville Road that night when he apparently struck a bicyclist at about 6:30 p.m., authorities said.

He then fled the scene, according to officials.
The bicyclist, Neil G. Burman, 68, also of Egg Harbor Township, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Investigation found that Duffy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, officials said.
This fatal crash investigation was a cooperative effort by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
