In this poignant memory play of yearning and disappointment, the narrator Michael takes us back to rural Donegal in August of 1936, at the time of the harvest festival of Lughnasa. The seven year old Michael watches as his unmarried mother, four maiden aunts, and mad uncle struggle to hold their footing in a world that is crumbling beneath them.
