Galloway Man Charged With Aggravated Assault Following His Father's Death

An autopsy determined that James Sopuch Sr. suffered blunt force trauma to the head before he died Saturday night.

The son of a 60-year-old Galloway man was charged with aggravated assault after his father was found dead in his home on Saturday night, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said on Sunday.

Galloway Police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit responded to a home on Trotters Lane around 10 p.m. after receiving a report that 60-year-old James Sopuch Sr. had been found dead in the home.

On Sunday, James Sopuch, Jr., 29, was charged with the aggravated assault of his father after an autopsy revealed Sopuch Sr.’s cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head. The manner of death was determined to be homicide.

The two lived in the same home. Next-of-kin have been notified.

Sopuch Jr. was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 full cash bail.
