Galloway Man Charged With Hit-and-Run in Smithville

The victim was hospitalized with a non life threatening leg injury.

A Galloway man has been charged with a hit-and-run in which a Somers Point woman was hospitalized with a non life threatening leg injury, police said Saturday morning.

James Newell, 79, of Galloway, was charged with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, failure to report, and failing to install an ignition interlock device.

He was driving a Chrysler Sebring within the Towne of Historic Smithville at about 10:05 p.m. Friday night when he allegedly hit 35-year-old Tasia Martinez, causing injury.

Newell allegedly left the scene of the collision and was later located at his home.
