Galloway Police to Participate in Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day

The local initiative is part of a national effort to ensure a full day without traffic related deaths.

Galloway Police will educated drivers and enforce penalties on distracted and aggressive driving behaviors as part of Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day, scheduled for Oct. 10.

Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a national initiative designed to unite the country to have zero traffic fatalities for a full day. Police encourage residents to obey all traffic laws, including:

  • buckling your seatbelt for every ride;
  • driving the posted speed limit;
  • avoiding distractions while driving; and
  • be safe and sober behind the wheel.

In 2013, 542 people died in car crashes, down from 589 the previous year. It was the lowest number of motor vehicle related deaths since the 1940s.

“Clearly, this effort will go a long way in our continuing effort to stem the tide of tragedies that occur every day on New Jersey’s roadways,” police said in a statement issued Wednesday. “Shining the spotlight on this one day can help create a groundswell of support for good driving behaviors that can carry over throughout the year.”
