Grants Awarded To Galloway Volunteer Firefighters

New Jersey American Water awarded more than $49,700 in grants to volunteer fire companies and EMS in honor of those who died on 9/11.

GALLOWAY, NJ — Several local volunteer fire companies were selected to receive funds from New Jersey American Water's 2024 Volunteer Fire and EMS Grant Program in honor of the first responders who gave their lives helping others on 9/11.

More than $49,700 was awarded to 24 volunteer fire and EMS departments in New Jersey American Water's service area, including seven in Atlantic County, the company announced in a news release Monday.

“Safety is paramount at New Jersey American Water, which is why we are proud to support those who keep our community safe every day,” said Mark Iannarella, director of Health and Safety, New Jersey American Water and former volunteer firefighter, Pennsauken Fire Department. “Through our Volunteer Firefighter and EMS Grant Program, we assist these brave men and women who selflessly and tirelessly work to protect our communities. We hope these funds will make their vital tasks a little easier.”

This year's grants will be used in various ways by each department including purchasing gas meters, imaging cameras, hoses, emergency lights, and other rescue equipment as well as important training courses and tools.

  • Bayview Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic County
  • Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic County
  • Egg Harbor City Volunteer Fire Department, Atlantic County
  • Linwood Fire Department, Atlantic County
  • Somers Point Volunteer Fire Company, Atlantic County
  • South Egg Harbor Volunteer Fire #5, Atlantic County

Recipients of the grant have been notified by New Jersey American Water, and the company will present checks this week to departments in attendance at the 2024 New Jersey State Fireman’s Association Convention in Wildwood on Friday, Sept. 13.

Since launching the grant program in 2011, New Jersey American Water has awarded 311 grants totaling more than $368,000 to 161 local volunteer fire departments and emergency response units throughout its service areas.
