Intoxicated Boater Indicted For Fatal Galloway Crash: Prosecutor

Jason Santo struck an Intracoastal Waterway marker just after midnight in 2023, killing one passenger and injuring three others, cops said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — An allegedly intoxicated boater was indicted on a vehicular homicide charge after a boat crash killed a passenger and injured himself and three others, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

The boat struck the 141 Intracoastal Waterway marker in the Great Bay Inlet off Galloway just after midnight on Aug. 12, 2023, according to a press release.

Atco resident Jason Santo, 42, was operating the boat when it crashed, officials said. Santo was also the boat's owner.

Boat passenger Mark Risden, 44, of Tabernacle, was killed in the crash, authorities said. Santo and three other passengers were also injured as a result, according to officials.

Investigation found that Santo was allegedly intoxicated during the crash, officials said, and this impaired his ability to properly operate his boat.
