Jersey Shore Woman Fled After Killing Mom, Grandmom: Prosecutor

Heather Barbera is being brought back to New Jersey after killing 2 people with a nightstick, prosecutors say.

A New Jersey woman charged with the murders of her mother and grandmother will be extradited to New Jersey on August 2, after she fled to New York City following the killings, authorities said.

Through the course of an investigation, it was determined that Heather Barbera, 41, of Ventnor took a bus to New York City after committing the murders, and she was identified Wednesday afternoon at the Midtown Manhattan Port Authority, located at 42nd Street and 9th Avenue by NYPD officers.

She was then taken into custody, according to the ACPO.

Barbera is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose – a nightstick – and first degree robbery, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Elaine Rosen, 87, and her daughter Michelle Gordon, 67, were found dead at approximately 10:25 a.m., on Sunday, July 8, inside a residence at 4800 Boardwalk, Ventnor.

Barbera reportedly confessed to the July 7 murders, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. “It was horrible,” her uncle, Richard Rosen, told the Inquirer. “They were both on the floor. There was blood all over. I was hoping they were alive, even though they were dead.”

Elaine had been living in the condo after her Brooklyn home was destroyed in Superstorm Sandy, according to People.

The cause of death for Rosen and Gordon, is multiple blunt impact injuries and the manner of death is homicide.

Barbera remains in custody at the Rose M. Singer Center, a women’s facility on RikersIsland, pending extradition to New Jersey.

This is a joint investigation between the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Ventnor City Police Department.
