UPDATE: Large Brush Fire at Wharton State Forest Burns Over 700 Acres

The fire continued to rage Thursday night.

Over 700 acres of land have burned due to a fire in Wharton State Forest Thursday as of Thursday night, the Burlington County Times reports.

A 9 and a half mile stretch of 206 is shutdown in both directions between Route 30 in Hammonton and Stokes Road in Shamong due to a large brush fire.

Several homes in Shamong have been evacuated, according to the report. Over 700 acres of land has burned and the fire is not yet under control.

About 55 firefighters are battling the blaze, according to the report. No injuries have been reported, and they are expecting to continue to fight the blaze overnight.
