LoBiondo, Hughes to Meet in Candidate Forums This Fall

The Second Congressional District candidates meet in six forums across the district before the Nov. 4 election.

There are six “Meet the Candidates” forums set for this fall involving the candidates in New Jersey’s Second Congressional District race. The district covers all of Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Salem counties, and parts of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Ocean counties.

Margate Concerned Citizens Group Meet the Candidate Forum

Monday, September 15

6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Ross School, Margate, Winchester Avenue, Door #10

30-minute presentation followed by 15 minute Q&A

Latino Cultural Association

Monday, September 22

7 p.m.-9 p.m.

In coordination with Unite Here Local 54 (casino union) and Univision Channel 65

The candidates will be introduced and have the chance to address the public and talk about themselves and their ideas for the development of the 2nd congressional district.

The forum will be opened to questions from the public. The questions will be in the areas of education, housing, employment, health, immigration and public safety.

Salem County Chamber of Commerce Meet the Candidates

Thursday, October 9

5:30 p.m.-8 p.m.

Salem County Community College, Davidow Hall, Auditorium, 460, Hollywood Avenue, Carney’s Point, NJ

10 minutes to answer question, “Why should you be elected to office?”

Each candidate is encouraged to present their position on key issues and perspectives on matters relevant to the Salem County community. Names will be drawn at random for position. The timekeeper is seated in front of the candidates. During each candidate’s speech, the timekeeper will hold up signs indicating the one minute-mark and the 20-second mark. When the 20-second sign is held up, that means the candidate has 10 seconds to complete their speech.

Cape May County League of Women Voters Candidate Forum

Saturday, October 11

9 a.m.-10:30 a.m.

Location is yet to be determined.

10-15 minutes to address the crowd, followed by Q&A

Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum

Wednesday, October 22

5 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The location and format for forum is yet to be determined by GACCC.

Republican Congressman Frank LoBiondo faces Democratic challenger William Hughes Jr. in this year’s race.

In July, Hughes challenged LoBiondo to a series of debates. However, no debates had been scheduled as of Tuesday.

Election Day is Nov. 4.
