Tenant Stabs NJ Landlord To Death, Prosecutor Says

Authorities say that Michael Carney of Mays Landing stabbed his landlord, Solomon Lonner of Lakewood, to death in his house.

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Mays Landing man was charged with murder after stabbing his landlord to death, authorities said.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on July 3, Hamilton Township police were called to 789 Park Road for reports of a stabbing in progress, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Solomon Lonner, 49, of Lakewood, was found inside with "multiple stab wounds," authorities said. Lonner was the owner of the house, according to officials.

Lonner was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after, authorities said.

Michael Carney, 39, who lived at the house, was detained and charged with murder and other weapons offenses. Carney rented the home from Lonner along with several other residents, officials said.

The cause and manner of Lonner's death are currently pending an autopsy.

The stabbing is under investigation by Hamilton Township police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit.
