Man Admits Fleeing Fatal Hit-And-Run In South Jersey

After hitting the pedestrian, Fabian Lucas defaced his car's vehicle identification number and planned to dispose of it, prosecutors say.

MAYS LANDING, NJ — A Mays Landing man admitted to fleeing the scene in a 2023 hit-and-run on Route 30 that killed a Pleasantville woman.

Fabian Lucas, 38, pleaded guilty to second degree leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and faces between five to 10 years in prison, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said Monday.

It was at about 11:30 p.m. on March 1, 2023 when Atlantic City police were dispatched to Route 30 for the report of a pedestrian struck.

Paramedics worked to revive Jodi Milhan, 49, who was pronounced dead shortly after at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

Debris from a 2012 Nissan Altima was scattered throughout the roadway, which prosecutors were able to trace back to Lucas using the Automated License Plate Reader System.

Police learned that in the days following the crash, Lucas defaced the car's VIN and removed parts of the damage. He then planned to turn the car over to American Recycling in Mays Landing for disposal, authorities said.

He was taken into custody in March 2023 and a trial was set to begin Dec. 9. His sentencing is scheduled for January 2025.
