Man Fled Scene of Drunk Driving Accident: Galloway Police

Galloway, Township, NJ -- A 21-year-old Egg Harbor Township man was arrested after police allege he fled the scene of an accident and left behind an injured child Sunday evening.

Joseph Raymond was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, unlicensed driver, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, failure to report an accident, endangering the welfare of a child, DWI by guardian with minor in the vehicle and assault by auto, Galloway Township Police said Sunday night.

Police allege Raymond had a 13-year-old child in the car with him when he rear-ended a car while speeding Aloe Street around 5:15 p.m. Sunday evening.

He was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer and struck a 2005 Toyota Sienna that was traveling west on Aloe Street, police said.

After the collision, police say Raymond fled the scene on foot, leaving behind the injured child, whom he was temporarily responsible for.

K9 Rocky tracked Raymond to a section of woods about 300 feet from the collision, where officers say they saw Raymond laying down in the woods.

He was taken into custody without incident and charged with the above offenses.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Galloway Township EMS, AtlantiCare-Medic 2, Germania Volunteer Fire Company and Atlantic City Electric all responded to the scene.
