Man Injured When Dump Truck Overturns on Garden State Parkway in Galloway

Galloway Police had to remove the dump truck's windshield to rescue Harold Banks Monday afternoon.

One person was injured when the ground he was driving his dump truck on collapsed under the weight of his vehicle Monday afternoon, according to Galloway Township Police.

A 1999 Mack Dump Truck driven by Harold Banks, of Bridgeton, overturned as it was traveling down a construction access road near Exit 44 off the Garden State Parkway, near Pomona Road at 2:32 p.m.

The truck is owned by 12 Wheels Construction, a contractor for the Garden State Parkway.

Police said the truck got too close to the edge of the dirt and gravel road, that collapsed under the truck, loaded with top soil. The collapse caused the truck to overturn on its passenger side trapping the driver.

The driver was injured but alert when Galloway Township Police arrived.

Officer Gary Brenner extricated the driver with a halogen tool by removing the windshield of the truck.

Banks was treated and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Division for moderate non-life threatening injuries by Galloway Ambulance Squad.

The exit ramp was shut down for approximately 20 minutes while the truck was turned over and removed.
