Man Stole Galloway Tow Truck, Crashed Into Parked Backhoe: Police

Police allege Joseph Raymond took a tow truck for a drunken Memorial Day joy ride.

Galloway Township, NJ -- An Egg Harbor Township man reportedly broke into Regional Tire in Galloway Township to retrieve items from his car that was in the tow yard.

He ended up taking a tow truck for a drunken Memorial Day joy ride, ultimately crashing it into a backhoe at South Jersey Auto Salvage in Mullica Township, Galloway Police said on Thursday.

Joseph Raymond, 21, was subsequently charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief by Galloway Police, and driving while intoxicated, receiving stolen property and numerous other motor vehicle summonses by Mullica Township Police.

Police allege Raymond broke into Regional Tire at 904 West White Horse Pike in Galloway at about 9 p.m. Monday night.

He was reportedly there to retrieve his belongings from an impounded van that had been involved in a previously reported crash at Aloe Street and Cologne Avenue on May 28.

While inside the secured area, police allege he broke into a Regional Tire tow truck, drove it through a security fence and left the property.

Police ultimately found him a South Jersey Auto Salvage, 5257 White Horse Pike in Mullica Township, after he had crashed into a parked backhoe in the salvage yard.

He was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus, where he was treated for minor injuries.

After his release, Raymond was charged and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
