Mays Landing Man Charged With Attempted Burglary in Galloway

Elijah Thomas allegedly tried to break into a home on East Cos Cob Drive around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

A Mays Landing man has been charged with criminal attempt burglary after he allegedly tried to break into a Galloway man’s home Tuesday afternoon.

The Galloway Township Police Department received a 911 phone call from a concerned citizen indicating that a man was attempting to enter a residence on the 300 block of East Cos Cob Drive at about 1:16 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Officer Thomas Guercioni responded to the scene where he made contact with 18-year-old Elijah Thomas, who was exiting the rear of the residence and matched the description of the suspect provided by the 911 caller.

Thomas claimed he had signed himself out of school and was meeting a friend at the residence, but police determined he was lying.

Police also discovered that screen doors and windows were tampered with, leading them to believe that Thomas attempted to enter the residence.

Police contacted the homeowner, who indicated that he had no affiliation with Thomas.

Thomas was also allegedly found in possession of black gloves and an empty backpack. Police then arrested Thomas.

Thomas was lodged in The Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
