Native Plant Swap for Backyard Habitats
Native, non-invasive plants beneficial to butterflies, hummingbirds and other wildlife
It’s time to pot-up your plants for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation’s Annual Native Plant Swap on Saturday, May 7 at 75 S. Pomona Road at the corner of Liebig Street.
Participants who bring two native plants to cover the price of admission can swap up to 10 additional plants. Participants without extra plants to swap may purchase up to three plants for $2 each. The event focuses on native, non-invasive perennials, shrub and tree seedlings, as well as non-invasive species beneficial to butterflies, hummingbirds and other wildlife.
“Providing local gardeners with a source of inexpensive—or even free—native plants encourages more backyard habitat in southern New Jersey,” says Jesse Connor, native plant swap coordinator. “Native trees, shrubs and plants are adapted to our climate and growing conditions and support local wildlife by providing food, hosting native insects, and meeting the needs of butterflies and other pollinators.”
