Cops Subdue Man With Knives Outside Smithville Wawa: Police
The man, who had two large knives, put his vehicle in drive and let it crash into the building, police said.

GALLOWAY, N.J. — Galloway police subdued a knife-wielding man after an three-hour standoff Thursday outside the Smithville Wawa, according to officials. The emotionally disturbed man was taken to Atlanticare Medical Center for evaluation, police said.
The 20-year-old man from Colorado put his vehicle in drive and let it crash into the building, according to police. No one was injured, but the building sustained minor damage.
Police were called at about 2:57 p.m. about a disorderly person in the Wawa lot. During the standoff, the man had two large knives. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office members, the Atlantic County SWAT team and Egg Harbor Township and Hamilton Township police arrived at the scene.

Officials immediately cleared all civilians from the area. Following the standoff, police took the man into custody without injury to the suspect or officers.
The man was charged with unlawful weapon possession, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, police said. All charges were placed on a warrant.

It is unclear at this time how he arrived in New Jersey from Colorado, police said.
