Pedestrian Critically Injured In Crash While Crossing Jersey Shore Road: Police

MARGATE CITY, NJ — Margate police are investigating a Tuesday evening crash at Jerome and Winchester avenues that left an 89-year-old city woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Police dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a pedestrian motor vehicle accident at the intersection at about 7:23 p.m. Aug. 11, according to the Margate City Police Department. Police units responded along with the Margate Fire Department’s ambulance and a medic unit.

Investigating officers at the scene determined that a vehicle making a left-hand turn onto Winchester Avenue from Jerome Avenue struck the woman as she crossed southbound in the crosswalk, according to police. The woman, who police said is from Margate, was taken to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.

She remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to police.

The department identified the driver as Stephen J. Thack, 84, of Margate.

Police said Thack remained at the scene and cooperated with the crash investigation. No summonses had been issued as of the department’s announcement, but they remain pending the outcome of the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by Officer Ronald Krause of the Margate City Police Department.
