Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By 2 Cars In Atlantic City: Police

A Manahawkin driver stopped when they struck the pedestrian on New Year's Eve, but a second car hit him seconds later, police said.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — A pedestrian died after being struck by two separate cars late New Year's Eve in Atlantic City, police said.

Officers responded to the scene at 10:47 p.m. Dec. 31 at Maryland Avenue and Absecon Boulevard, Atlantic City police said. The pedestrian, 38-year-old Atlantic City man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian was first hit when he entered the roadway at Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. The driver, a 61-year-old from Manahawkin, had the right of way and immediately stopped after the impact, police said. The pedestrian was knocked to the ground.

But seconds later, a second car also hit the pedestrian, dragging him before stopping, police said. That driver, a 54-year-old from Atlantic City, and the Manahawkin driver both stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers. No charges have been filed at this time.
