Pedestrian Fatally Struck In Egg Harbor Twp., 1 Car Flees: Police

The 33-year-old man was thrown about 75 feet on impact, police said.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NJ — A driver fatally struck a pedestrian at about 8:55 p.m. Monday on the Black Horse Pike, according to police. Jose Santiago, 33, of Egg Harbor Township, was thrown about 75 feet and sustained fatal injuries, police said.

Vicente Luna, 36, of Vineland, drove with a suspended license, police said. He was charged with involvement in a fatal motor vehicle crash with a suspended license, Egg Harbor Township police said.

A second vehicle involved has not been identified. The vehicle struck Santiago and left the scene, police said.

Luna was driving eastbound on the Black Horse Pike when he struck the pedestrian on the roadway in front of Rental Country, police said. His 2007 Mercedes Benz hit Santiago in the outside, eastbound lane, according to authorities.

Officials shut down that area of the Black Horse Pike for about three hours and investigate and clear the scene.
